Summer is almost here and the Jackson Center for the Arts

is offerings activities for all ages!

All activities are at the Jackson Center for the Arts,

309 2nd Street unless otherwise noted.

PRE-REGISTRATION ensures that we have enough supplies

for everyone to have a fun time.

Some classes and events are led by volunteers.

bring the whole family to see a variety of artists this summer

June - Looking North: displaying early Inuit art from Canada

on loan a private collector.  Through June 28.

July – John Sterner – Native American artist

August – September - Dani Prados and Talon Cavender-Wilson

CHILDREN K - 12TH GRADE

Creative Kids

Wednesdays 10:30 AM-12PM, K-5th grade, $5 per class, registration required.

Wednesdays 2PM-4PM, 6th-12th grade, $5 per class, registration required.

Projects:

June 14 - Outdoor Drawing – Sharpen your pencils and grab a sketchbook.  We will be walking around downtown and sketching as we go.

June 21 - Rock Painting – Join us as we paint rocks to spread good feelings around downtown.

(also held on July 12 and August 9)

June 28 - Outdoor Watercolor Painting – known as Plein Air, we will gather at a local park with our watercolor supplies to paint what we see around us.  Location will be announced on Facebook.

Tuesday and Wednesday – July 18 – 19

Open studio.

K-5th grade - 10:30 am-12 pm,

6th-12th grade – 2 am-4 pm

$5, please pre-register.

 

                                      Tuesday, July 25 – 2 pm – 4 pm - Art at the Fair. 

             Join us to paint a mural that celebrates the fair.

                        (Find us near the old school house at the fairgrounds)

 

Tuesday and Wednesday - August 15 – 16

Paper Making. 

We will be making paper using recycled materials. 

It’s a fun, mess process that makes great art paper.

K-5th grade - 10:30 am-12 pm,

6th-12th grade – 2 am-4 pm

Kindness Rock Painting

Have you ever stumbled upon a colorful, hand-painted rock that has been painted in bright colors or has an uplifting message written on it? You may have just found a kindness rock! Rock painting or rock art is a trend that has picked up popularity in recent years. Whether you're an artist who is looking for a new art project or someone who wants to share a positive message with others, painting rocks might be for you. 

​

Children & Adults Join us near the shelter at Ashley Park

Thursday June 22nd, July 13th,

August 10th and September 14th, from 5pm-6:30 pm.

 

What do I do with the rock I FOUND!

It’s your choice.

  1. You can keep your rock or hide it in another location.

  2. Tell friends, family, and neighbors about your rock painting adventures and invite them to join the fun.

  3. Spread the joy! Consider painting and hiding more rocks. It’s a lot of fun for kids of all ages – from toddlers to seniors!

  4. Take a selfie and upload it to the JCA Facebook page.

 

 

Beginning Crochet

10 years old through adult. Wednesday – 6:30 - 7:30 pm

June 14, 21, 28, July 12, 19

We will learn to crochet by making simple dish cloths.  Over five sessions

you will learn how to start a project, how to read a pattern,

five basic stitches, and then move onto some combination stitches.

Children ages 10-12 years old must be accompanied by a paying adult

Cost: $30 per person age 13 to adult includes materials

$15 per child 10-12 years old includes materials

Crafts are not just for children. 

Crafting has been shown to relieve stress, help with depression and insomnia, and keep your mind active.

Adult Creative Writing Class Workshop - Cancelled

6 sessions. Monday and Thursday evenings 6-7:30 pm June 12th – 29th.

Make and Take for Adults

Wednesday – 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

August 2, 9, 16, 23 Each week we will make a different item that you can take home to decorate your home, office, or cabin.  Come for as many sessions as you want.  Check our website or Facebook page to see the list of projects.

Cost:  $25 per session.  Includes material and supplies, complimentary glass of wine (age 21+) or non-alcoholic beverage and snacks.
