About the event
Thursday, September 26th in front of Jackson Center for the Arts, the Farmers/Makers Market will take place from 3:30-6:30pm as usual but that is only the beginning! Second Street will be blocked off , even after the Market for our special Fiesta Street Dance! Los Rebeldes (The Rebels) is a Mexican-American group from southern Minnesota performing since the early 1980s. Their style from the north blends with the traditions of the south to bring the musical styles of Tex-Mex, Conjunto, Country Rock, Folk, and Cumbia alive on stage or in our case, on 2nd Street. They will be playing from 5:30-8:30pm. Sponsored by a grant from Minnesota State Arts Board and Conjunto Showcase. Bring a chair and your dancing shoes to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Our fourth annual Salsa Competition will take place inside the Art Center where you can sample recipes for salsa made by local chefs, from mild to medium to SPICY! Vote for your favorite salsa or enter one of your own! Check our website or stop by for an application including ingredients in your salsa to avoid food allergies. Prizes will be awarded!
Also, as a fund raiser for Jackson Center for the Arts, our English as a Second Language group will be providing an amazing selection of Mexican and Latino foods including Pata de Cerdo, Agua de Jamaica, Frijoles Charros, Empanadas, Horchata, Pozole, Tostadas de Tinga, Tacos Dorados de Papa con Repollo, Chilles Jalepeño, Tres Leches Cake, Mole de Olla, Quesadilllas, ,and Flan! Samples of all food will be available from 5:30-7:30pm for a free will donation to the Art Center! What a better time to sample things you never knew you loved on a menu! Then listen or dance to the Music for free!
We are excited to share the Hispanic and Latino cultures with the residents of Jackson and all of Jackson County! See you there!
